Many readers responded with their impressions of The Rising, the first in the prequel trilogy to the Left Behind series (the second to come out in November). Most found The Rising to be a great read, some calling it the best of the series. Of course, not everyone agreed, but praise for the book ran high.
The major concern raised by a significant number was the dark tone of the book, which made it difficult to read for many, impossible to finish for a few, and deemed inappropriate for younger readers.
We thought we should ask co-author Jerry Jenkins to respond to some of your reactions. We also asked about some details in the story. So, be forewarned, we don't want to spoil your experience if you haven't finished reading The Rising!
Remembering Ken Taylor Ken Taylor may not be a household name, but many are familiar with his work. Concerned for making the Bible easily understood, he worked on a paraphrase in modern English. The first section, Paul's letters, became Living Letters in 1962. When no one else would publish it, he and his wife Margaret founded Tyndale House Publishers, which publishes the Left Behind series. Soon, Living Letters was enthusiastically adopted by Billy Graham in his Crusades. By the time Ken finished the entire Bible, The Living Bible became the number-one selling book in America in 1972 and 1973. Ken died on June 10, at the age of 88.
