LaHaye & Jenkins Make Entertainment Weekly's Power List
Left Behind series authors Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins are ranked 42 on Entertainment Weekly's list of the 51 most powerful entertainers. Entertainment Weekly's annual power issue lists the top 101 entertainers and executives in the industry.
In its list not frequented by evangelical writers, Entertainment Weekly found it hard to overlook the string of successes from the Left Behind franchise whose sales now exceed 50 million copies.
"Funny, I don't feel any more powerful today than yesterday," says Jerry. "But my dream remains to inform and entertain through fiction in the form of novels and movies that compete in the marketplace of ideas."
"We never foresaw that our books would ignite such widespread interest," Tim adds. "We are honored and pleased that so many people have shown such a keen interest in what the future holds for mankind."
The Left Behind series title Desecration stunned industry watchers when Publishers Weekly announced that it was the number one best-selling hardcover fiction title for 2001, knocking John Grisham out of the position he had occupied since 1994. In addition, TIME Magazine did a cover story in the July 1 edition on the Left Behind series phenomenon and current interest in End Times issues.
